Rupert Harrington
Non Executive DirectorChairman
Rupert has been involved in private equity since 1987. He has been a member of the Advent team for all of this time, apart from 1996-98, when he was an Investment Director with National Australia Investment Capital, a subsidiary of National Australia Bank. Rupert has experience in the full range of private equity investment activities in Australia, including fund raising and portfolio development as well as the management and sale of investments. He has been a director on the boards of over 20 of Advent's investee companies; including manufacturing, services and technology based businesses. Prior to joining Advent, Rupert had 11 years of general management experience in the UK and Australia, with considerable emphasis on rationalising and reorganising manufacturing businesses in the textile and clothing industry. Rupert holds a Bachelor of Technology degree and a Masters of Business Management from Bradford University along with a Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance from Manchester University.
Brian Ball
Non Executive DirectorJoining Advent in 1986, Brian is one of Australia’s most experienced private equity investment directors. He has participated in the fund raising, portfolio development, management and sale of investments for several generations of Advent Funds. He has been chairman or a director on the boards of over 20 Advent investees. Prior to joining Advent, Brian played a pivotal role in helping establish the Australian venture capital industry. He was Secretary and Member of the Espie Committee that recommended Australia’s first VC Program, the MIC Program. Brian was then responsible for leading the design and implementation of the MIC Program and MIC Licensing Board. Brian holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from Monash University and has also attended numerous specialised courses in finance and general management.
Rob McIntyre
Managing DirectorRob joined SecurePay approximately 7 years ago, originally as its Financial Controller, later as its General Manager and for the last 3 years as its Managing Director. Throughout this time he has been responsible for the general growth of the business both organically, and through the acquisition of several competing and complementary businesses. All sales, client support, development and system administration processes have been re-engineered by Rob throughout the 7 years in order to meet best practice standards, the introduction of new data security standards and generally to achieve market leading principles. Prior to joining SecurePay, Rob spent 15 years in the Chartered Accounting profession within Price WaterHouse and Deloittes, primarily focusing on mergers and acquisitions and profitability and process improvement consultancies. Rob has a Degree in Economics with a major in Accountancy from the University of Adelaide, is a member of the Institute of Company Directors and has completed the Post Graduate Professional Year of studies with the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Nick Smith
Non Executive DirectorNick founded the business of SecurePay approximately 9 years ago in order to provide payment solutions for councils and utilities. He has since stepped aside to concentrate on his other business activities and remains as a director. Nick has built and managed an IVR hosting business and more recently has established a number of web based businesses providing sales and marketing type services as well as web staff outsourcing solutions.
Edward Maberly Smith
Non Executive DirectorAfter working for a number of years in the sharebroking and finance industry, in 1975 Mab acquired a small engineering supply company. Manufacturing of specialised fasteners commenced shortly after, and having built up a dominant position in its field he accepted a takeover for his business in 1997.Since then his interests have been in the fields of propertyl and investments. He is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia.
